Here is part two of creating a finding aid for the Ted Carlson Papers:


 Scope and Content Note


The Ted Carlson Papers are a collection of his personal correspondences and documents from 1944-1946. It encompasses some of his time as an undergraduate student at Wesleyan University, his time at Iowa State College, his U.S. Army experience during World War II, the Chrysler Corporation in Detroit, and Monsanto Chemical Company in Dayton, Ohio. Some of the personal letters included also confirm his involvement in the Manhattan Project while at Chrysler. 


Series I: Personal Correspondences , 1944-1946, consists of letters from Ted Carlson to his parents, letters from his parents to Ted, and other correspondences which include Sam, Ariel, Al, Dot and Chet. These letters give a glimpse into Ted’s personal life, future plans as well as insights into his opinions on nuclear science. All letters are arranged chronologically within each folder. 


Series II: Educational Letters and Records, contain letters and records from Ted’s time as an undergraduate student graduating from Wesleyan University, and documents from his brief time as a graduate student at Iowa State University before being drafted into the military.


Series III: Military Records, 1944-1946, contain letters consists of two folders. Folder 1: Army Papers contain forms from the army, special orders, his request for discharge, and other forms. Folder 2: Miscellaneous Papers contain documents and publications such as Ted’s Employee Inter Plant Pass, Class “A” Pass, Commissary Card from Paterson Field, and an issue of The Dayton Scientist which he coedited.
